Sermon January 3, 2021
by Terry Swicegood
I don’t know if your attitude about the New Year is similar to mine. Some worry about civil unrest as a new Administration take office. Disappointment that the vaccine for Covid is not being distributed as quickly as it has been promised.
But hope that at some point in the not-too-distant future we will be back to a semblance of normal. Going to church and ball games and family gatherings.
So as I begin a New Year I do so with a sense of adventure. I feel very much very much like explorer. There’s a new land, a new world out there, and I’m about to enter it. What joys, what perils await?
You and I have just passed through the most difficult year of our lives AND we have made it. We are still here. In the toughest hours we have felt God’s hand guiding us every step of the way.
There is an old song that you might know, which goes: “I know not what the future holds but I know who holds the future.
As you know our son is a pilot with American Airlines. So I’m interested in everything about flying. The other day I imagined this announcement by a flight attendant just before takeoff.
Hello, welcome to flight 2021. Please make sure your Attitude and Blessings are secured and locked in an upright position. All self-destructive devices should be turned off at this time. All negativity, hurt and discouragement should be put away. Should we lose Altitude under pressure, during the flight, reach up and pull down a Prayer. Prayers will automatically be activated by Faith. Once your Faith is activated you can assist other passengers. There will be NO BAGGAGE allowed on this flight. The Captain (GOD) has cleared us for takeoff. Have an enjoyable flight.
